Just as I started another attempt to scale the Emacs learning curve, the Emacs Beginner HOWTO acknowledged [1] what Emacs fans refuse to accept.
[1] This is a web-marker link. Install Web-Marker for Firefox to see what I want to point out exactly.

:)
Who are those Emacs fans that refuse to accept that vi is more popular than Emacs? I am sincerely curious!
I 'assumed' every true Emacs user thought so. Are'nt you one ?
I consider myself a true emacs user but its stupidity if one refuses to acknowledge that vi is the most commonly used.
What I say is: The ratio of inefficient people to efficient people is greater than 1 :P
btw, your LiveURL link didn't highlight anything on my firefox (was it even a LiveURL link?). I'm using LiveURL 0.1, am I missing something?
What I say is: The ratio of inefficient people to efficient people is greater than 1 :P Right
:) Knew this was coming as soon as I made the post. Popular does'nt mean powerful, eh? btw, your LiveURL link didn't highlight anything on my firefox (was it even a LiveURL link?). I'm using LiveURL 0.1, am I missing something? You are missing web-marker :) We released a revamped extension. Unfortunately the URL format changed a bit as we ditched the DOM based implementation.
Yes, but that doesn't mean that I have to demean Emacs by entering it in any popularity contest. :P
Not 'any' popularity contest. There is only one popularity contest that we are talking about :P
Direct link to XPI won't work, unless the users add their friends page to the extensions source list. :/
:) Did not think of it. Thanks for pointing out. Removed it.
Its totally inconsequential as to which is more popular, IMHO.
Some masochists like pressing Escape : before entering every command, and then after that typing some text and realizing that they are in command mode and not insert mode, and pressing i (or a) and retyping the text. To each his own. For that matter, some people like the simplicity of notepad.exe (or kedit if you will). Again, I would say, to each his own.
PS: For the records, I am an emacs fan.
PS2: I'm still using Firefox 1.0.8, so cannot use your extension :(
Its totally inconsequential as to which is more popular, IMHO.
Agree. But I found mention of that in the HOWTO a bit surprising.
Blame it on the NPOV trend set by wikipedia :p

You’d believe together with the multi gazillion cash of investment that wikipedia could acquire some much more servers. | |
