LOL. _WalkKing_ is so funny!
(Pithukuli Murugadas?! He also sings, doesn't he? Every Saturday evening WorldSpace is such a drag (murder, or some other equivalent word should be used here) because that guy (whoever that is!) sings so horribly!)
Yeah, he does sing. I've seen him singing long back on DD. He sports nice coolers and an orange bandana to go with it.
Oh man... If you lack music so badly, I can help. Unless, of course, you are enjoying Pithukuli Murugadoss (which will make it four people in all who like his music -- Himself, his Wife, WorldSpace (Carnatic channel) manager and now its you :P )
Indeed, I lack a lot of music :) I inherited this harmonium Pancharatna kirtanaa compositions from my uncle. Think I am long way from forming 'informed' opinions about Carnatic music. It is'nt too bad to just listen though.
And you are sure he is married ? ;)
Marriages do lots of things to people. I could 'feel' the agony in his music.
:P

Dear Critic of Pittikuli Murugadas, To understand South Indian Music I mean, the core carnatic, one does require the idea of what and where devotion stands for. The Source of carnatic music is bhakti and not the showing-off-songs sung during Navarathri. This elelment of devotion is of late fading away where sensational Golu. Now skill of music is considered as important than the soul of music. What a pity?! Murugadas is a musician who popularised 3000 old classical tamil isai which none of the present musicians dare to know, sing or understand. Because Rasikas want tukadas of small emotions and sentiments. Where his classical tamil isai, particularly Tirupugal or Alwar Pasuram (which have been considered as one of the greatest poems in the world of literature)came to us through him. More over, he is not like other musicians who just repeats what is being taught. He has originality, commands mastery over thaal, laya and sruthi. His songs are deeply devotional with high quality carnatic music, and his voice -just golden. If Madurai Mani, MSS, MDR, or any of those classical musicians live and happens to witness PM (Pittukuli Murugadas) they will appreciate his thirst for orginality, creativity, commitment, devotion, voice culture and many other stuffs. You know why? Because they were popular only for all these things. Do you understand now? His is original like the swara-notes of MMI, the beauty of the rhythm of MDR, Beethovan's thirst for new expressions, Bach's understanding of secular Music, brilliant Doha of Kabir, vivacity of Vivaldi. He is musician boss, not a singer. He is a Bhakta like Thiygaraja and the trinity and not tution or music teacher. When he sings, his music has history, culture, bhakti, agelessness, sheer creativity and what not? Anything to say?

I'm sorry to have come across as such a non-sense. Firstly, I was just going by what someone 'identified' the song on worldspace as 'pithukuli murugadass'. I haven't seen him live and so I don't know if the 'drag' I heard on World Space was really him.
But I have to say that the 'drag' (whoever that was) had such 'expressiveness' that *I*, with my subjective experiences, couldn't call it carnatic music. There wasn't a bhavam. The person tried crying, though.

Yes. Its ok. But please be advised on this.
I would be glad if you learn a little bit on these as a part of GK. Cultural anthropology of Carnatic music, History of Bhakti cult, South Indian Tradition of Music (by the way do you know that the oldest form of music is South Indian Carnatic Music?) the spiritual phenomenology of Music in general, works of Dr. Ramanathan on Ethno-Musicology, Comparative Structuralism between the western classical and India classical, the oldest 3000 year old Thevarap Pann and many in the endless list. The carnatic raagas we have now are nothing but derivations of these Thevarap Panns. These Panns are nothing but devotional outpourings by the way FYI. You know that? Do you the know comments of Harrison of Beatles when he listened to the classical bhakti song of MDR at Kerala? Do you the comments of Sankara Muni (who lived up to 100 yrs )when he walked up to MMI's house and asked him to sing? Have you read the research articles of MDR? Have you read the books of MSI? Have you read about the research on Mozart’s, Bach's, Beethoven's stuff which is spiritual in content? Plenty are there in life to know, understand and appreciate.
By the way when you are not sure of who is actually singing, how can you comment and record your impression on a person whom you are not sure of?
Anyways ! These net access and stuffs give plenty of such rooms for these types of things. It is nothing new. Read all these and then start your comments. Bye. (May I know who you are and what you are?)

Thanks for the info. Though I've been learning minor technicalities of Carnatic here and there I'm not anthropology guy (nor am I religiously inclined to sit through a "Bhakti" related book :) ) I would definitely like to learn about Carnatic.
... and I think I'm no significant character for you to know who I am / what I am. :)
"Everything you come across is a way to practice the method" -- Some wise buddhism quote and I'm realizing the beauty of that quote here :)
Thank you, Anonymous.

Sorry sir. your are missing my point again. 1. first your personal subjective experiences are personal as you have put it. so you cant compare them with the Absoluteness of carnatic music. 2. you say you dont know anything about anthropology or any other stuff which i mentioned for music appreciation purpose...please start reading them. otherwise, your exercise will incomplete as your statements are 3. your little knowledge on carnatic music cannot open higher vistas of understanding. you say you are learning carnatic music by now. my blessings for you. 4. develop devotion to music atleast if not devotion per se. may god bless you. 5. be wide, be open. read more. assimilate more. articulate properly and express clear ideas once understood. 6. do well. good luck.

May I know who you are and what you are? You could know quite a bit about sunson by visiting his blog. Could you please identify yourself, Anonymous?
You could be Annie Kingwalker too ;)
That was a really good one :)
Also, in Hindi Mode... Na + tara + jan => No + Star + Life =~ Starless Life Or if you wanted to stay 'tech', you got it all (almost!) Nat + ar + ajan (Asynchronous Javascript And Natarajan (where the 'Natarajan' again becomes recursive)? :) ) Ok, enough of my blade. Want to write a tool to generate such names? :D (We need a Tamil to English dictionary).
LOL. Good ones. The AJAN one was super.
Another regret of mine is that my name very closely misses out on being a palindrome -
natarajan - najaratan
With dictionaries available, it will be a much used tool I assure you.
Want to write a tool to generate such names?
hehe.. Somehow this reminds me of chinna vayasu kadi jokes.. you know.. "opposite of Govindan" and so on..
The Tamil translation is nice but the Hindi one makes more sense semantically... although it's pessimistic!
Govindan opposite "Come" vindan - correctaa ?
Scientifically the Hindi translation could actually mean a black hole :)
Ian Walkking... good one... so hws it going IW ?
Just walking through life ;)
Where is the perfect translation of sunson? (Oh my, did I miss something?)
Suraj - Sun
Kumar - Son
:) (Deleted comment)
:) Thankoo. Nice imagination.
Kan + nan --> Eye + Bread --> Ibread
nan == roti == bread :)
Hindi to English to Tamil
Nan == Roti == Wheat
Kan + Nan --> Eye + Wheat -->Wheat-i (Can be pronounced as Vetti) :P
You could have derived that conclusion without bothering to translate :)
(Hindi) - Kan + nan --> Ear + Eat --> a-Eater assuming Nan - roti - eating item! (Tamil) - Kan + Nan --> Eye + ME --> I + Windows --> iWindows
iWindows ?? Competition to iMac :P
Oh my god!!!!!!!! what is happening here?
Me thinks you should consider only 'Walk-king' and not 'Ian Walk-king'. You know the opposite of your name?? it is 'Nadakkadhe raja'. Naanum en pangukkuku kadichutena?
Agree, Walkking is sufficient.
Dont let out the opposites in this post. We will reserve that for another post :P
The opposite will be nadakaddha 'rani'
